The practice does not provide letters or certificates stating that a patient is “fit to travel” or “fit to fly”.
This is because assessing whether someone is fit to travel, particularly by air, is outside the usual scope of NHS general practice and may require specialist knowledge of aviation medicine, the patient’s destination, airline requirements and any relevant medical risks.
If your airline, travel company or insurer requires medical confirmation, please contact them directly to ask what evidence they need and who is able to provide it. In some cases, this may need to come from a hospital consultant, midwife, private travel clinic or specialist travel medicine provider.
Where appropriate, patients can access factual information from their medical record, such as a medication list or summary care record, via the NHS App or by requesting access to their medical records. Please note this is not the same as the practice confirming that you are fit to travel or fly.
