How to Make and Cancel an Appointment
Making an appointment
Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, we are encouraging our patients to use our new online consulting tool to book non urgent telephone and video appointments. After a telephone consultation has been completed, the clinician may need to offer a videoconsultation or a face to face appointment if clinically indicated.
Problems booking online appointments?
Booking an appointment with the Doctor
Patients with complex or long-term conditions may often require a longer appointment than 10 minutes.
At the time of booking your appointment if you feel this is appropriate please ask the Receptionist for a longer appointment.
If you wish to speak to a doctor or nurse for advice please telephone the surgery and speak to the Receptionist. Either the doctor or nurse will contact you at the end of their surgery or sooner if urgent.
Each doctor’s appointment is 10 minutes and each Nurses appointment is 15 minutes. If you have more than one thing to discuss with the doctor it is important to ask for a longer appointment. We are very sorry when surgeries run late and this is often unavoidable in an emergency. However, if the appropriate appointment is booked delays may be avoided.
Some appointments requiring more time:
- Further ante-natal appointments 20 minutes
- Sports injury appointment with Dr Simon Owens 20 minutes
- 1st travel immunisation consultation with Nurse 30 minutes
We have a touch in screen at both surgeries to avoid waiting at reception. We hope this will avoid delay when the Reception is busy.
Evening and weekend appointments now available to see a Nurse, GP or Health Care Assistant
These are provided to all patients in Cambridge, Ely, Royston and surrounding villages at a local hub. These hubs are at Nuffield Medical Centre Cambridge, Comberton Surgery Cambridge, St May’s Surgery Ely and Royston Health Centre Royston.
These are for routine and non-urgent appointments and can be booked by our Reception team, who will tell you the time, date and venue.
Patients are able to be seen within 48 hours for all acute conditions. For all other appointments you are able to pre book up to 8 weeks in advance.
For older patients and patients with complex or long-term conditions
If you are unwell you may be more at risk of quickly becoming more unwell and might be at risk of admission to hospital.
At the early signs of illness please contact the surgery so that a Nurse or Doctor can offer advice to prevent an exacerbation of your symptoms.
You can now receive text messages from the surgery. To give your consent and check we have the correct mobile telephone number please contact the surgery.
Messages can be sent to confirm appointment details and send a reminder the day before reminders for routine health checks/ blood tests and results etc
